Unit 7: Exponential Functions
At the end of Unit 7, you will be able to (Do) …
C2PI1: Create a graph and algebraic model to represent real-world data or a situation, to interpret, predict, and justify my conclusions.
C3PI1: Convert between representations (algebraically, graphically, numerically in tables, or by verbal descriptions).
C3PI3: Determine, interpret, compare and contrast key features of functions.
- Use multiple representations of exponential functions to solve everyday problems. (F-BF.A.1)
- Use multiple representations, especially equations, of exponential functions. (F-BF.A.1)
- Use multiple representations of exponential functions that involve a percent increase (appreciation) or percent decrease (depreciation). (F-LE.A.2)
- Create a step function graph. (F-BF.A.1)
- Rewrite equations with more than one variable. (Checkpoint 7A)
- Solve problems by writing equations. (Checkpoint 7B)

Unit Outline
Section 8.1 You will investigate a family of exponential functions. You will recognize exponential growth when given situations, tables, graphs, or equations, and you will make connections among these representations. You will also extend your knowledge of exponents and their properties, and learn how to use these properties, along with the algebra skills you already possess, to solve exponential equations. You will be introduced to step functions. At the end of the section, you will get to apply exponential functions to everyday situations involving growth and decay.
