Unit 8 part b: Congruence and Coordinate Geometry
At the end of Unit 8b, you will be able to (Do) …
C6PI1 Prove and use theorems about lines, angles, triangles, and parallelograms (including congruence and similarity).
C7PI1 Use coordinates to prove simple geometric relationships and theorems algebraically
- Given shapes identified as similar, use ratios of corresponding side (scale factor) to calculate lengths of missing sides. (G-SRT.B.5)
- Using a congruence conjecture (SSS , ASA , AAS , HL , SAS ) and/or a sequence of rigid transformations, identify pairs of triangles as congruent, and write a congruence statement. (G-CO.B.6-8)
- Use flowcharts to organize arguments about triangle congruence. (G-CO.B.7-8)

Unit Outline
Section 7.1 You will start by reviewing what you know about similar triangles from a previous course, and about rigid transformations from Unit 8a. Then you will develop strategies to justify that two triangles are congruent. You will learn how to use flowcharts to justify your conclusions. In the process, you will learn some of the notation used in geometry. You will focus on congruent triangles. You will look for “shortcuts” to determine if two triangles are congruent, and use flowcharts to organize your thinking.
